Amber Beauty is a selection of Prunus maackii, named for the lustrous brown colour of its bark. The dense blossom forms in clusters and contrasts with the fresh green leaves which appear about the same time.
As the tree matures the bark on the main stem develops a peeling flaking appearance.
The small cherry-like fruits are not suitable for humans but attractive to birds.
Amber Beauty is a relatively fast-growing ornamental cherry tree.
The species Prunus maackii is known as the Manchurian cherry after the region of its likely origin. It has some similarities with the bird-cherries (Prunus padus).
Illustrative example of a pot-grown tree of this variety as supplied. Approximate girth: 6/8cm. We try to keep all pot-grown trees down to about 1.5m as supplied, but some may be larger. Trees should reach their mature height after about 10 or more years.
We list more than 70 different flowering cherry trees. Choosing can be difficult! Our article explaining the different characteristics of flowering cherries might help narrow down the selection.
