Albizia julibrissin 'Ombrella' is a compact example of this species, noted for its exotic feathered leaves and colourful candy floss pink blossom, which is on show throughout the summer.
As the name suggests, Ombrella will eventually grow into an attractive spreading tree with an umbrella-shaped canopy.
Please note that our pot-grown Albizia trees are only available for delivery from November - February.
Order now for delivery from week commencing 4th November for pot grown trees or December for bare-root or mixed tree orders.
Albizias are essentially a tropical species, but some varieties are suitable for temperate climates, and Ombrella is one of the most cold-hardy. Nevertheless as with all Albizias, it should be planted in a sheltered position, in full sun.
It is smaller than most Albizias, and should not get much larger than 3m or so in the longer term.
Albizias do best in well-drained soil, and need little or no feeding - just regular watering.
Pruning is not necessary, but if you wish you can prune after flowering.
The seed pods are poisonous.
Illustrative example of a pot-grown tree of this variety as supplied. Approximate girth: 6/8cm. We try to keep all pot-grown trees down to about 1.5m as supplied, but some may be larger. Trees should reach their mature height after about 10 or more years.
