Sango Kaku is an upright Acer, which will eventually reach up to 3m tall, as a shrub-like tree. It is commonly known as the Coral Bark maple, on account of the bright coral red colour of younger shoots. Over winter these bare stems provide a bright focal point in the garden.
The dainty palmate light green leaves are attractive over the spring and summer, and turn gold in autumn.

Sango Kaku is easy to grow, but does best in good soils and benefits from some shade. It is best to avoid pruning.
Sango Kaku was introduced to the UK in the 1920s and originally known as Senkaki.
