Trompenburg is a fairly vigorous upright Acer, characterised by bronze leaves which turn fiery red in the autumn.

Trompenburg is sometimes categorised in the 'Elegans' sub-group of Acer palmatum. These varieties usually have deeply cut 7-lobed leaves and an upright growth habit.
