History

Spectrum was raised at the US National Arboretum in the 1960s. It is a cross between Magnolia liliiflora 'Nigra' and Magnolia sprengeri 'Diva' and is a sister of Magnolia 'Galaxy'. The main differences are that Spectrum has fewer but larger flowers.
