Watermelon features rich coral pink flowers - reminscent of the flesh of a watermelon. The flowers are borne on bare stems ahead of the foliage.
Watermelon flowers from a relatively young age, and the semi-double flowers are large, even by Magnolia standards, typically 15cm - 20cm across.
Watermelon was developed by Vance Hooper of New Zealand. Its parents are Caerhays Belle and Genie (also developed by Hooper).
