Carnival is an attractive form of the Field Maple, featuring variegated leaves with cream-white margins and light pink growing tips. In spring, from a distance, you could almost mistake it for a white-blossom cherry tree, such as the extent of the white variegation.
In good conditions in the UK it will become a small tree of up to 5m - or a large bush in less favourable conditions - making it a good choice if you are looking for a Field Maple for a smaller garden. It is also suitable for planting in parks and community spaces.
This is also a good tree to plant if you want to help your local bees - the dull green / yellow flowers are not particularly attractive, but produce large quantities of nectar and are sought-after by bees.
All our pot-grown trees are grown for us to our specification by the Frank P Matthews nursery.
All pot-grown trees are suitable for planting out in the garden, some are suitable for growing in containers.

If you do not hear from us by February you can contact us in the spring to pre-order for the autumn.
Carnival benefits from hard pruning in winter, this will increase the size and colour of the leaves.
Like most Field Maples, Carnival is a versatile tree and will tolerate both acidic or alkaline (chalky) soils, and also soils prone to flooding over winter.
