Sorbus hedlundii is a little-known species of whitebeam, originating from the Himalayas, particularly India, Bhutan and Nepal. It features the attractive downy grey-green leaves which are characteristic of whitebeams, but in this species they are generally larger than in other whitebeams, and the undersides are distinctly lighter.
White flowers form in early summer, followed by clusters of russet brown fruitlets.
With its attractive leaves and pleasing form this is potentially one of the best whitebeams available, and deserves to be more widely planted.
All our pot-grown trees are grown for us to our specification by the Frank P Matthews nursery.
All pot-grown trees are suitable for planting out in the garden, some are suitable for growing in containers.
